don’t worry man. just remember to bring more shorts, less pants, and maybe one or two pairs of swimming trunks.

er. notice that the article “Thailand floods kill 70″ is actually outdated. It was published in 2001. The article from the link after this article was published in 2005.

on another note, its good that lam is active here. if we get in trouble and somehow manage to post something on this blog (like “glug glug glug” or “help i am abducted”) she can take the appropriate measures.

hahahhaha lammie’s crazy commenting is very funny. ok i feel extremely WEIRD commenting here, but whatever. when are you guys going? i think i will actually be going to bangkok too, sometime during the holidays! except i will be shopping like a maniac while…what will you all be doing? shopping?! the idea of that is a bit weird:)

mid nov, for abt seven days.. yup we’ll be shopping too.. hard to fathom rite.. (yes actually i find it hard to envision too) maybe u could spare us some shopping tips :)

  11. Chun Wee Said on

Historical sites! But seven days… it’s enough to do a lot of things.

No Yi San, that does not include sourcing for fine Thai booty.

  12. genevieve Said on

er i think as far as shopping tips go, just go to chatuchak, for everything there is dirt cheap. actually ask lammie, she is the bangkok expert.

    chun wee: yeah RIGHT.

Ponce: I told chairman chun that I was shocked that the word “BOOTY” was even in his vocab!!!!

Mugger: Yup like Ponce said, for shopping you guys must go to Chatuchak (which I noted was already on your travel itinerary, so that’s good), but it only opens on weekends and is very crowded, warm and hot, so take note.

However, I realised that guys are not so picky about shopping, so generally I bet you’ll all already be able to find good stuff for yourselves at Mahboonkrong Shopping Centra (aka “MBK”) - it’s got everything la, in addition to shops - cheap restaurants, good fastfood, cinemas, everything!

Remember to bargain like crazy. I would suggest that Chunchun minimize his brow-furrowing and eye-glinting expressions lest they seem threatening to the salesgirls and shopkeepers.. on the other hand, I would encourage mugger to FLEX HIS CHARM and bargain, every thai girl likes a cute muggey mug

    no offence :-)

No one ever believes me. It is tragic.

Don’t worry, I’ll be nice to the natives, if only because I do not wish to return home in a cosy wooden box. Anyway, when in Rome…

Also Yi San seems more excited about this than we are. Hm.

    wtf.

  16. LAMMIE Said on

wingmusic - i dont get it, what???

chun chun: in my introductory southeast asian studies module that i took last year, the lecturer told me not to use the word “natives” because even though it is technically correct to use it (as i did, and you did), it has derogatory connotations of ‘backward peoples’ living in unenlightened times, etc.

therefore, even BEFORE landing on thai soil you have already made A BIG SOCIAL BOO BOO!!!!

  17. Chun Wee Said on

    … what?

Do you not believe that that is more hypersensitivity on the part of your quack lecturer than any mistakes by me?

It is perfectly correct to use “natives”. It’s not like I called them “little brown cannibals” or something.

    So there, little LAMb. =)

  18. s. ning Said on

If you cannot say natives then are you only allowed to say “local” or “indigenous” (which I think possibly sounds even more derogatory)? That would be quite limiting to vocab if you have to write 2000 word essay about them right
